Beginning classical piano at age three and discovering jazz at fifteen, he first rose to extraordinary heights in Japan: a multi-platinum recording artist, Japanese Grammy winner, actor, television anchor, and author a cultural icon whose name defined an era. At forty-seven, at the peak of his fame, Senri made a bold and deeply personal choice. He walked away from stardom, moved to New York City with his beloved dachshund, Peace, and enrolled in The New School for Jazz and Contemporary Music. Under the mentorship of masters including Junior Mance and Aaron Goldberg, he reinvented himself from scratch. It was not a retreat.
